Why you’ll never see Gypsophila in my designs.

If you’ve started researching wedding flowers, then you’ve definitely met Gypsophila — more commonly known as baby’s breath. It’s light, airy, cloud-like, and for many people it feels like a floral ‘neutral’.  Gypsophila has become a default filler flower, used not because it’s the best choice, but because it’s the easiest one it’s familiar but ‘familiar’ and ‘timeless’ are not the same thing. When something is everywhere, it stops feeling special. This is your wedding day so let’s stop and think about that for a moment.

What are the alternatives? Firstly, it’s your Florist who will make the flower suggestions, if you don’t know the name of a single flower that’s not a problem. Worried about price? Gypsophila is not your friend. There are so many seasonal alternatives that work well as a filler and spray chrysanthemums have a lot to offer these days (yes really!)

My floral design focuses on the British seasons in which there is no home for tropical flowers or Gypsophila. This design decision is rooted in my values. I can’t show you how your flowers will look on the day, what I can do is have clear design principles so when you look at my Instagram or my website the style of flowers you see here are the flowers that will arrive on the morning of your wedding.
